We all make mistakes (or mistacks, as I once saw it spelled), the key is to recognize your weak points and check for them before posting. Even AFTER posting, it is still a good idea to go through it one more time and check for errors. You can always go back and edit even after posting.

More faves:

stalking/stocking
dining/dinning
shining/shinning

and my PERSONAL favorite, in a dramatic, soul-searching story:

raping/rapping

Nothing better than reading about how a character got "rapped," eh?

One that I see all the time is the mix up of quiet/quite/quit, a result from fast fingers on the keyboard?

oh lordy...

raped/rapped always cracks me up especially when the mood of the fic is so serious. All of a sudden the mood is just destroyed by a single word.

"You rapped me!"

*snarfle giggle*

But I really hate (with a passion) as/has.

I dont know what posesses people to write has instead of as but it really bothers me.

HaHa, Anno. Sometimes, I don't know how to use the ' apostrophe. Sometimes, I don't know about capitalization and punctuation when quotation marks are involved. Sometimes I refer to a reference book. Sometimes I avoid the matter, by changing the structure of the sentence. Sometimes, I just wing it, and hope no one notices!

Here's another I notice from time to time:

content/contempt

Talk about changing the entire meaning of a sentence.

Yeah, the past tense of some irregular verbs get to me, too, and I sometimes have to look them up to see if I am using them correctly.

As far as I can tell for kneeled/knelt and smelled/smelt, either form is acceptable for both the past simple and the past participle, and it is the writer's preference of which one to use.

I remember reading MontiK's author parody fic and the chapter that dealt with grammer mistakes like this.

Wither/Writhe

and something else...

Oh, I forgot that one! Kagome seems to wither when Sesshomaru gets intimate with her. Sounds unpleasant, for both parties involved...

It's kind of funny when Kagome calls Rin "sweaty" instead of "sweety".

Good luck with that, KT, it ain't gonna work, not with me, 'Anal Annie', loving your stories.

Let me add this one to the mix: sooth/soothe. And punctuation can drive me crazy too, I have a serious problem with the ellipsis (...), it is 3 dots, not 2, 4, 6 or more. And all punctuation used with quote marks goes INSIDE the quote marks. There is no trailing period or comma. Arrrrgggghhhh!

Excuse me, I have to wipe the foam off my mouth.

Incorrect usage of the comma is kind of bothersome. Some authors are deadly afraid of using commas and some just litter their writing with it... kinda annoying.

I'm guilty of being a comma whore But I'm learning so I am not as bad as I use to be.

Hear/here. Stair/stare. Sight/site. Write/right/rite. XD

I'm also guilty of using lots of commas. I know I place them in the right places (most of the time) but I have a bad habit of using them when they aren't really necessary... I just can't stop myself. -__-

A good method to determine comma placement, without getting out your English Handbook, is to read the text aloud. Wherever there is a natural pause in the reading is probably a place that needs a comma.

Also, however and therefore should be treated as parenthetical phrases and preceded by a comma and followed by a comma.
