The Angel of Death by The_Serene_Poet

The Pain Within Surfaces

It was cold and snowing with more force from the wind than needed. After what she saw the snow biting at her face was nothing. The tears streaming down her face were almost freezing. It was Inuyasha that made her tears fall; it was him for the second time. The first it was just a kiss, something that still broke her heart but couldn't tear her away from him. She had a duty with the jewel shards since she was the one that broke it.

But what she just saw was too much even for her. As she ran out of the trees she fell and tumbled down to were the well should be. As she got up and looked over the edge of the hole more tears threatened to fall at the memory.

***********************Flashback**************************

She was going for a leisurely walk in the forest. She had to calm down after the fight she had with Inuyasha. "Kagome how could you want to go home for finals! You broke the jewel so you have to stay here until you find them all!" Kagome glared daggers at him. "Inuyasha don't yell at me! The only reason the jewel is broken is because you told me to fire an arrow at it!" She ground her teeth trying to hold down her temper. "Besides, if I ever want to move forward in my life at home then I have to take these finals." She managed not to yell at him but with great effort.

"You're not going and that's final!" Kagome looked at Inuyasha and all at once her rage was an angry torrent around her. "Inuyasha! Sit Boy!"

Slam!

Inuyasha was face down in at least three feet of ground. He recovered quickly through his rage. "Why you wench! You will never go back your time!" Kagome froze at his words. She could her him draw the Tetsusaiga and yell "Wind Scar!" and to her astonishment he was aiming at the well.

You can imagine the way Kagome felt. The only reason she could walk leisurely was because she knew in her heart she could still get back. She just wasn't sure how. Then she heard it. It was coming from the God tree. What she saw and heard there was overwhelming. It was Inuyasha a Kikyo holding each other. "Inuyasha did you destroy the well like I asked you to?" Kikyo looked up into his eyes. "Yes my Kikyo I did, and it was all for you. I love you, and now that Kagome can't go back we can make her suffer while she has to watch our love. Then when the time is right I will get your soul back." Then they kissed. And she ran.

**********************End Flashback***************************

So here she stands. Looking into the pit where the well should be. All that was left was little remains of splintered wood. A small piece of snow landed on the brim of her nose. It was strange how the snow suddenly began to fall, and as soon as her heart had broken too. It set the already miserable mood. But she couldn't exactly feel bad in the snow, it was somewhat comforting. The cold didn't seem to bother her, or so she thought. Her skin looked pale, almost white. She turned away from the well only to see Inuyasha walking to her. Then without a warning she yelled as a wave a pain came from her back. Inuyasha stood helpless as he watched the black wings sprout from her back, her long black tresses becoming even darker and longer. Her eyes turned an icy blue. He stared at her floating figure, unsure of what to do.

"Kagome?"

As he said her name those icy blue eyes looked at him. She could see into his soul, his heart. In that heart she saw the love he held for Kikyo and empty space that was slowly being filled by her. She imagined his heart turning to ice. Imagined an aura of death around him.

Inuyasha cried out in pain as he felt a chill run through him. It centered on his heart and froze. Then as soon as the pain was there it was gone. He opened his eyes to see Kagome flying away at a frightening fast pace. Flying west, away from him and toward Sesshomaru.
