Fate Rings, Too Bad I'm Not Deaf
Kagome took a deep breath, leaned her head back, and shut her eyes for a second. Today had been longer than most days. She sighed and looked at her wrist, watching the small arm tick a full circle before dazing back in enough to read the timepiece- 7:30 pm.
Yasha would be mad when she got home.
A huff of air escaped before she could stop it. It was comical really. She had gone from single woman with no responsibilities, to caretaker before she had time to blink.
Her right hand rubbed her forehead; then dropped back to the papers on her desk.
She looked them over carefully, picked up her pen, and proceeded to finish filling in some minor updates on her patients.
‘Felix’s neutering went as expected. Blood tests were clean, vitals were good, and he was ready to be released in the morning. Snow was not so good with lower vitals and a tachy-arrhythmia; the snake had not been her friend this morning.’
Kagome’s head bobbed with her thoughts as she continued filling in papers.
‘Diesel's blood test came back. His creatinine levels were drastically high. Definitely kidney problems.’
She nibbled the end of her pen in thought shuffling through his papers before finding the one she wanted.
‘High levels of leukocytes evident by his urinalysis and complete blood count. Fever, vomiting, and lethargic. Yep, Acute renal infection, high potential for acute renal failure.’
Her pen hit the charts, darting down a few orders before lifting once more to her mouth.
‘Fluid therapy starts tonight, as well as his first dosage of penicillin. He most likely was suffering from Leptospirosis. Which thankfully was treatable.’
She nodded to herself again, then glanced once more at his most recent vitals.
‘Not bad, but not great.’
Her pen jotted down an order for mannitol if the dog’s output levels didn’t increase by 10 am tomorrow, and fate rang, weaving the red thread of destiny deeper into place.
