Failure

Kagome was jerked from dreamland to the land of the living by a certain hanyou pitching a fit over something or another. She had slept late this morning. Groggily, Kagome crawled form her bedding to prepare for the day.

“About time you got up wench,” Snapped an irate InuYasha. Kagome pinched the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. Today was just not going to be her day she could feel it in her bones. Sighing, she rolled up her bedding, packed it and proceeded to rummage through her much abused yellow pack for her toiletries. But they were not there!

“Where are my-oh.” She was met with the sight of the hanyou holding her bathing case in which she kept all of her bathing supplies. “Looking for this?” He asked smugly. She automatically reached for it but he held it above her head. “Nuh-uh, not today wench. You slept late, now you’ll just have to do without your bath.”

She could not believe her ears. Had he been dropped on his head as a child? She always cleaned up in the morning whenever they camped near a stream. And now he was going to deprive her of one of her few pleasures? No. This was not happening.

Sucking in a breath, she then released it, as she looked into the smug golden eyes of her supposed “friend”. Narrowing her own, she pursed her lips. Her hands went on her hips. Her hip was then cocked to the side. She smirked inwardly at his suddenly flattening of his ears. Which were totally adorable by the way.

“Sit your ass down, InuYasha.”  She snapped.

The beads didn’t work. Slowly, the hanyou flicked his eyes down to hers, and he smirked widely. “The charm wore off wench. What are ya gonna do now?”

Her other friends, Sango the slayer, Miroku the monk and Shippo her kit stared in shock at this new development. Never had the beads ever failed Kagome. And now…they did.

Kagome’s first thought was ‘What am I going to do when he transforms?!’

InuYasha crowed his delight. “If you think you’re gonna pull rank on me anymore in this lifetime, think again. I am Alpha.” Kagome fell to her knees. Now she had no way to stop him. From anything. Ever.

The camp was silent save for InuYasha’s ecstatic mumblings. He rambled to himself, and frequently flicked his eyes to the young miko in training.  He stalked around the camp as his pack mates packed up, puffing out his chest with male pride.

Meanwhile, Kagome was at a loss. She went through the motions, but she was on autopilot. Now she did not have a defense against his constant bullying. It had become even worse as of late, and she suspected it coincided with his even more frequent visits to the undead miko, Kikyou.

Hoisting up her bag, she trailed behind her pack, eyes cast downward, her head reeling from the morning’s events. What would she do now?
