Lavender Memories by Stella Mira

Purple Butterflies

Made for the Purple Butterfly Challenge. Let’s all give our support to people going through this terrible disease.

He hated the color purple; he hated butterflies and most of all he hated purple butterflies.

“Sesshōmaru, aren’t they pretty?” she would always say with a soft expression looking out the hospital’s window.

Every single time they gathered there, waiting for her, greeting her and every single time he hated them, abhorred to see them.

“Yes, but you are so much more beautiful,” he would always answer, dismissing the fluttering purple lights and kissing her forehead lovingly.

He despised them, for they reminded him of her pain and suffering, yet now he longed to see them, he prayed they would return, for that would mean she was still there, she was still looking out the window with that sweet look.

He was alone, yet he was not. They surrounded him, engulfed him in a protective cocoon, carrying her essence within them. He always ignored them, pretended they were not there, but he couldn’t do that anymore. They were all he had left to remember her by, recall her radiant smile, connecting him to her. She loved them, and now they loved him.

He needed them desperately, clinging to the memories, drowning in the purple haze. He could still smell her lavender scented ebony hair, feel her warm touch, get trapped in her azure gaze when they were around. He hated them; he hated her. He loved them; he loved her. They were still here; she was not, or was it the opposite?

He loved the color purple; he loved butterflies and most of all he loved purple butterflies.

A/N: Most people affected with lupus these days live their lives like all other people minus some small difficulties, thanks to an early diagnosis. However, there are cases when major complications occur, if vital organs are affected. Let's pray for a cure in the near future. This is dedicated to a dear friend of mine who unfortunately succumbed to this disease. She also loved fanfiction. Treasured in my heart you'll stay, until we meet again some day, my friend.
