A/N: Wow, it’s been years since I last wrote a story (sad face). So please bear with me, I will try my best with grammar usage and to update often. Onwards with the story, this will somewhat be a songfic. In my story, Bankotsu is only from the modern era not in feudal Japan. They are still demon and mikos running around. Thanks for reading it, hope you enjoy it!!
Summary: Could she finally let go of her only link to the past, to finally move on with her life. The only problem is how much more heartache can a girl take when she has to choose between the past and the future.

Beep, beep, beep... Slam and a sore hand was how Kagome woke up to start her Monday.
‘I hate Monday mornings’ she thought to herself while she went to doing her usual morning routine that now included adding ice to her now swollen hand. She only had 45 minutes to shower, eat, get dressed, and feed Buyo. Luckily she didn’t have to rely on public transportation because she had only lived a few blocks from her job. She was a Cardiologist surgeon and on the list of top 10 best surgeon in Japan. She worked her ass off to get where she was especially after returning from the Feudal Era she completely indulged herself in her studies.
She spent years dwelling on the fact the well had been sealed shut never allowing her to see her friends and her past love. She didn’t eat, drink, socialize all she did was cry for three months. Until she had a breaking point no matter what she did, she wasn’t able to return. She knew everyone would disapprove of her actions if they seen what she was doing. Especially her Sesshomaru, ugh what she would do to have a chance to see him again? Although they weren’t mates yet, he was courting her before she made the final wish on the Shikon Jewel and was taken back to her time. She didn’t belong her in her time no one knew what she’s been through or experience anything remotely close to what she has done. She wondered how everyone was, her last wish was for eternal happiness but sadly wasn’t able to see how everyone managed. Did Sango and Miroku get married and have children as everyone knew was bound to happen. Did Inuyasha become a full fledge demon or did he mate with Kikyou. What happened to her Shippou-kun did grow into strong demon and find a mate. Lastly, what happened to her Sesshomaru, did he mate someone else, have kids, is he still alive? All these questions popped in head constantly but were pushed back as she started her career and found someone to ease her pain.
‘Ring, ring, ring’ Kagome was on her way to work while her phone caught her attention.
“Hello darling” said Bankotsu in a very cheerful way, her boyfriend of six months who had been her first since Sesshomaru.
“Hello to you too, someone’s happy today” Kagome said surprised.
“Well I’m thanking the Kami’s that I was able to wake up today to hear your beautiful voice first thing in the morning”
“Ok Ok what did I do to deserve this” Kagome said while walking in the hospitals front entrance.
“Meet me for dinner at Sakura’s at 8” Bankotsu said with a wide grin while sitting at his desk.
“Okay but Sakura’s is expensive, what’s the occasion” said a confused Kagome while changing in her surgeons scrubs.
“My princess deserves the best, just don’t be late. I got to go now love, but I will see you later. Love you” Bankotsu said before hanging up.

Kagome was just standing in shock, of all places why there. This had to mean something big; maybe he got Takahashi to finally merge with him.
“Earth to Kagome, what has got you all frazzled looking” said one of her good friends Eri said. Eri was the only person who helped get her to where she was today, although she has other girlfriends. Eri had been the only one to help her move on with her life and could keep up with her busy schedule since both are surgeons.
“Bankotsu called and wants me to meet him at 8 at Sakura’s” Kagome said while prepping for surgery.
“WHAT, OH MY GOD KAGOME, HE’S GOING TO PROPOSE” screamed Eri while everyone just started at the pair.
“Eri be quiet, no he’s not maybe he got that company to finally merge with him” said a reluctant Kagome.
“After we are done, I’m coming over and dressing you” Eri said while both of them headed into their first surgery of the day.

Later on that day
After two hours of tearing Kagome’s poor closet, Eri found the perfect dress. It was a slim black dress that went just before the knees and had a wide V cut into her back that ended right before her but. She ended up doing her hair in a sleek bun that had little stands coming out which she curled. To really give the wow factor, Eri had given her a smoky eye which really brought out her cerulean eyes. Eri looked at her masterpiece and was amazed.
“Kagome, you look so wonderful” Eri said
“Thank you so much Eri, but I got to go it’s already 7:45” Kagome said while hugging and kissing her best friend as she headed out.
Pushing me away so I give her space
Dealing with a heart that I didn’t break

“My my, Kagome you are one beautiful sight to look at” Bankotsu said while kissing her palm and pulling out the chair for her.
“Thank you and so are you” a blushing Kagome said while thanking him for inviting her to such a beautiful place.
“As I told you earlier you deserve the best, Kagome I have some good news” exclaimed Bankotsu.
“What is it, did you get Takahashi to merge” Kagome asked
“Yes I did, and also I want you to be there at the banquet for us merging because I want to introduce you as my fiancée” said Bankotsu while getting on one knee.
“I know it’s early but I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Kagome. I love you so much and I’ll take care of you no matter what. I know you had a trouble past but let be the one to take away your pain” Bankotsu said to her lovingly.

“Oh my, well of course I’ll be there and I accept” said Kagome while launching in his arms and the whole restaurant clapping for them two.

“Thank you so much for a beautiful night, Bankotsu” said Kagome while they were in front of her apartment.
“You deserve it, soon to be Mrs. Jin” said Bankotsu while kissing her slowly.

“Kagome, you don’t understand how much I care for you. You are exactly what I been looking for all my life. At times I feel like I love you more than you love me but I know you had a troubled past. But please give me a chance to prove to you that I’m never going to hurt you. I been hurt to but I look back and I’m happy that she broke my heart because I was able to meet you” Bankotsu said while looking deep into her eyes.

Kagome couldn’t return the look because he didn’t know how much Sesshomaru meant to her. Even though it’s been ten years, he still has a piece of her heart. However she was trying her best to move on so she nodded while he took that as a step in the right direction.
As she kissed him goodnight, she shut the door behind her and slid down it. ‘This is supposed to be one of the happiest nights of my life, why can’t I just be normal and be happy for once’ she thought as tears poured down her face. For some weird reason she couldn’t shake the fact that she was betraying Sesshomaru off her chest.
