Turning Page
by Sleeping At Last
I've waited a hundred years,
But I'd wait a million more for you.
Nothing prepared me for,
What the privilege of being yours would do.
I climbed the steps toward the old shrine that reminded me so much of a time long ago. Business and a miscalculation had kept me from the object of my desire for far too long. There dressed in traditional clothing of a priestess was the women I had waited for over five times a hundred years to see again. She was sweeping the pathway of the temple clear of the gathering cherry blossom petals falling from the trees. She was so engrossed in her duties she did not see me standing on the top of the stairs. Subtle changes could be observed in her form, she had matured from a youth into a woman with curves in the right places but still familiar to my eyes. While for many waiting this long for a simple woman seems ludicrous but not for this Sesshomaru, for the Miko I would wait a million more years. The overwhelming feelings of possessiveness caught me off guard while I stood there observing her in the beauty of the spring day.
If I had only felt the warmth within your touch.
If I had only seen how you smile when you blush.
Or how you curl your lip when you concentrate enough.
Oh I would've known what I was living for all along.
What I've been living for.
500 years ago while she traveled with my idiot brother a temporary truce had been formed between her pack and my own to defeat the evil scum called Naruku. Her smile and kindness towards my long dead ward and the demon kit slowly thawed my icy heart all those long years ago. I however was too foolish to realize at the time that love does not make one weak but makes one stronger. I was a cold bastard all those years ago who did not understand the importance of a touch, a smile, or the love of friends and family. Over the long centuries I had seen time and time again that the will to protect those one loves often gives the power to overcome obstacles and events that seem impossible. My father's words that fateful night he perished eventually made sense to me “do you have someone to protect?” While I did not understand the lesson my father attempted to teach me the Miko finished the lesson my father had begun.
It started small she keep the peace between my brother and myself while maintaining proper respect to my status. This impressed myself so I began to observe her closely how see interacted with the children and the others in the strange pack we had formed. I noticed that while she was strong willed she was still a female smiling while she blushed in embarrassment when paid a complement or placed in awkward situations. She was well educated and I noticed that her lip would curl when she concentrated to hard on a task in front of her. Eventually over time her strength, determination and loyalty impressed me enough to deem her worthy of my notice.
We developed a friendship and would talk for hours in the evening while the idiot chased after the dead. She talked of her education and it's importance to herself and her family. We talked of family and she asked the importance of pack and what the proper edict to be observed within. We both were pupil and teacher both educating the other in the customs and culture of the others time.
Your love is my turning page,
Where only the sweetest words remain.
Every kiss is a cursive line.
Every touch is a redefining phrase.
Eventually friendship grew into more however I was too dense to realize how important she had become to me till the very end. I craved the simplest of her touch be it a hand on my arm or simply skin touching skin briefly as she passed me an object. The final battle with Naraku drew near and she expressed her fears of dying, of leaving her kit and the possibility that even if we succeeded in winning the battle, that fate may deem her journey done and send her back to her own place in time. She begged me to look after the kit if something should happen to her. She did not trust the idiot to raise him to be a strong proper demon, I agreed and to my shock she sealed our bargain in a kiss. Such a kiss as this Sesshomaru had never experienced before. While the kiss was brief it felt as if it was continuous and would last till the end of the earth, and then suddenly she smiled with that pleasing blush on her skin and darted away quickly from my side.
We lost the opportunity to explore our feelings further for the battle began before the sun rose, and before the sun set that same day the monster who plagued our lands for so long was dead at the little Miko's feet and that cursed jewel in her hands. She whispered something to that troublesome gem and in a flash of light it was gone, I know not what she wished for only that she began to fade instantly. goodbyes and tears where exchanged quickly and I stepped forward. she cupped my cheek “ I hold you to our bargain” she said with tears shining in her eyes I simply nodded and leaned forward towards her ear. “Our story is not done yet Miko” I said “I will find you to finish what we have started.” and with that she was gone with nothing left but the lingering feeling of her touch on my skin and a feeling of emptiness the likes I had never known before.
I surrender who I've been for who you are,
Nothing makes me stronger than your fragile heart.
If I had only felt how it feels to be yours
Oh I would've known what I've been living for, all along
What I've been living for.
After she had departed for her proper place in time I gradually began to change. While I was still a formidable force towards my enemies I realized the importance of friendship and family the true meaning of pack. I focused my energies in raising my Rin and the Miko's once again orphaned kit. Rin grew into everything a father would have ever desired in a daughter and the Kit... Shippo grew into a fine demon cunning, strong and intelligent. Rin herself saw the boys merit and pursued him relentlessly until the two where mated. They had lived a long and happy life till the bombing of Japan during the second world war. Even a demon could not survive the atrocities of the atomic bomb and with Shippo gone Rin followed as that they had tethered their souls together to ensure she would walk beside her mate till he ceased to live.
I would have followed them to the after life if it was not for the few of their pups that had not been with them and the hope of seeing the Miko again and the promise I had to fulfill. So I carried on surrendering myself to the changing times. I cut my hair and hid my true nature behind a glamor to the average person I was nothing more than a Japanese businessman, and I waited.
I had to keep my distance and allow fate to play its hand waiting for my Miko to fulfill her destiny, and once her task was complete claim her for my own. Harder still was waiting for her to complete her schooling I wanted no barriers to stand between us when I succumbed to the privilege of being hers.
Though we're tethered to the story we must tell,
When I saw you, well I knew we'd tell it well.
With a whisper, we will tame the vicious seas,
Like a feather, bringing kingdoms to their knees.
The time had finally come I had waited for far over 500 years to claim what was mine, I took a step forward “Miko” I called out the woman stopped her sweeping and raised her startling blue eyes up to mine.
“may I help you” she replied politely with a look of confusion in her eyes.
“ You may indeed Miko we have a story that must be finished” I replied with a smirk.
The broom fell from her hands clattering to the ground as her hands raised to cover her heart. I could barley hear my name whispered from her lips as tears filled her eyes.
“Indeed Miko it is this Sesshomaru”
She closed the distance between us raising her hand from over her heart to cup my cheek. Blue eyes stared into my own searching I know for the demon I once was in the disguise of the man I appeared to be. I glanced around the area to insure that we were alone and let my aura shine through, black hair turning silver and and markings flashing upon my skin once more.
I saw her shoulders relax and recognition settle in her eyes. She smiled through the tears and I heard her say “took you long enough it feels like I have died everyday waiting for you.” and with those words uttered my control broke I pulled her into my arms and claimed the lips of the one who was mine the one who I had the privilege of belonging to. Kingdoms would crumble and fall and the earth die beneath my feet before I would ever let go, she was finally mine.
