The soft sound of keys clicking were accompanied by a glowing computer screen. Kagome Higarashi was sitting in front of her computer yet again. A few days earlier she had discovered a chat room and had met an interesting character who went by the user name, Omega. She found that she could not pull herself away when she was engaged in a conversation with him. He was understanding, intelligent, facetious and didn’t seem to act fake.
She stretched against the back of her chair and sighed as she typed out her newest complaint, “You remember the boy I told you about? The one that’s always giving me gifts and asking me out, even though I always tell him no?”
She waited for a response.
Omega: “Yes I remember you mentioning him. What did he do this time?”
“This time he cornered me after school and practically demanded I go out with him, he has been getting more forceful lately. It worries me that he might do something brash.” Kagome quickly typed out in response.
Omega: “Have you told any one of your concern? If you’re that worried you should make sure he cannot get to you.”
Kagome sighed and pulled her legs under her body and typed: “I have mentioned it to my friends and told me I should not worry and to avoid him. They say that I lead him on. I’m not sure how, I always decline his gifts and his offers to go on dates. What am I doing wrong?”
Omega: “It seems to me that you are doing nothing wrong, this guy needs to listen to you and cease his actions.”
Kagome paused for a moment relieved that someone else would take her side. The boy in question was named Hojo, he had seemed nice enough at first, however once he began to peruse Kagome it seemed he couldn’t take no for an answer. Kagome typed out, “I’m glad someone seems to think I’m not over reacting. I was beginning to think it was all me.”
Omega: “I can only imagine the fools that surround you. I see how people act, I loath it. They seem to only care for themselves and not think, please be weary of this guy if he is as aggressive as you say. Don’t let him get you alone.”
Kagome: “I promise I won’t. Well, it is time for me to say goodnight. I will see you online tomorrow same time?”
Omega: “You can count on it. Goodnight little one.”
With that Kagome shut down her computer, finished any lingering homework and headed off to bed. The last thing she needed was for one of her professors to shake her awake during a lecture. Yet she couldn’t fight off this feeling that tomorrow would not be a good day.
An alarm shrilled through the morning air, and a sleepy Kagome nearly fell out of bed to turn it off. She was not a morning person to say the least, she also had to sit through philosophy first thing this morning, her least favorite subject. Not that she found ideas and thoughts to be bad, but the teachers droning voice made her want to pass out.
Forcing herself to not crawl back into her ever so inviting bed she shuffled down the steps to the kitchen were her mother was preparing a delicious breakfast.
“Good morning baby girl. I have a plate made up for you already.” Kagome’s mother smiled as she handed her the plate.
“Thanks mom, you’re a life saver. I wouldn’t have made it through the lecture without this kickstart.” Kagome yawned and smiled. She chowed down and finished getting herself ready for the day and was out the door at a decent time.
When Kagome made it to campus she was greeted by Sango, her long time best friend. They had been with each other since kindergarden and were inseparable. They had bonded once Sango beat up a boy for stealing Kagome’s crayons. Needless to say that was all it took to be friends in kindergarten. Sango put her arm around kagome’s shoulder and said, “If that Hojo jerk messes with you today, just give me the word, he’ll be eating dirt by time I’m done with him!”
Kagome couldn’t help but laugh, “Thanks Sango chan, but I hope it doesn’t come to that.”
They walked to class together, Kagome wanting the day to end already so she could go home and talk to Omega. She couldn’t help it, talking to a complete stranger should be unnerving but she found it peace in talking to him. She found someone who wasn’t biased and had their fair share to discuss. Sighing Kagome looked at the clock and waiting.
