Kagome stood silently, looking at the sleeping members of the tachi. She whispered a silent apology and started to leave the campsite. She turned one last time and saw a sleepy Shippou looking at her from the sleeping bag. She held out her arms to the Kitsune, who scrambled into them willingly. “Where are we going, momma?”
Kagome ran in silence in the darkness, only the stars above as their light. “We are going somewhere I can find advice for my condition.”
Shippou looked stunned for a moment. “Condition? Are you pregnant?”
Kagome laughed, “Oh, kami no. I’ll explain when we’re in a safer place. I don’t want this known. Go to sleep, Shippou. We’ll be traveling awhile.” Kagome looked at her foster son and smiled, then flared her reiki slightly, not enough to harm the kit, but enough to mask their scents. She ran throughout the night, sometimes varying her course, but always heading in the same direction. As the sun touched the horizon, Kagome stumbled and fell, hitting her knees, hard enough to jar the boy in her arms.
As the kit looked around, he looked startled, “Holy Inari! How we get to the edge of the Western Lands already?”
