Puppy Bowl by Riku Ryuu

Giants Ahead

This was inspired by the Super Bowl... Sort of. Also for Skye's Ribbon Challenge.

Enjoy.

Sesshomaru was pulled out of sleep by the sound of metal scraping against metal. His eyes snapped open and he was on his feet within a second, watching without emotion as hands as big as his body opened the door and entered the place he had called home for the last three weeks.  The hands went around his waist and gently pulled him from his home.

“This one will do. What’s his name?” The owner of the hands asked someone else. Sesshomaru was pulled towards a large female who cuddled him to her chest. He thought about growling at her, whenever he did that he was put back in his home, but Sesshomaru needed to stretch his legs so he stayed silent and little the woman pet him. “His fur is so soft!”

“He was named Storm because of his fur.” The was a pause. “Also for his cold nature. I don’t think he’s the best choice for this Kagome he is… unaltered.”

Sesshomaru had to take hold of his self control so that he would not flinch. The people used words like unaltered and medical personnel, but unlike the others he knew what it meant. They could call him whatever they wanted, but he refused to let them do anytihing more than give him shots.

“Doesn’t matter. All the others are ‘altered’ so it won’t make any difference.” Sesshomaru was lifted away from the woman’s chest and turned to face large blue eyes. “And he is just so cute! He will be perfect.”

***

Sesshomaru wanted to sigh but he refused to show weakness while so many eyes watched him. He was packed together with only a few of the other participants, but he refused to have them look down upon him. His pride was already hurt enough by the fact that he was captured, darn that witch, and he would allow nothing else to ruin him if he could help it.

The room they were in was large enough for all of the participants to sit around and for the huge people to stand around. Sesshomaru currently sat with his back to the wall, watching everything around him for possible threats. Kagome stood off to one side, dressed in a strange shirt with black and white striped going vertically, talking to a man with a headset on.

“Come on Miroku, don’t tell me you forgot to charge the batteries! I was looking forward to the new cam…” Kagome pouted at the Miroku person. Miroku just shrugged.

“It will be done soon enough. Just give it about ten minutes.”

Kagome seemed to be relieved by this and Sesshomaru wondered what the ‘cam’ they were talking about was. He moved from the wall and headed for Kagome’s feet as quickly as he could so that no one could take the opportunity to attack him from behind. Once he was near Kagome, he patted her leg to get her attention.

“Storm How are you doing buddy?” Kagome leaned down and, without asking, picked Sesshomaru up and lifted him into her arms. Holding him to her with one arm, she used the other to pet him. Sesshomaru ignored the hand and used the height as a chance to get a better look at his competition. The breds around him seemed to be low class, ranging from white to black hair. Most of them seemed to be playing with toys that the large people must have left out.

“Storm huh?” Miroku said. Sesshomaru focuced back on the man to see that he was putting out a hand to pet Sesshomaru's hair. Sesshomaru just stared at him silently. Something in his expression must have warned Miroku because he put his hand down before he touched the silver hair. “Doesn’t seem very friendly.”

Kagome laughed.

“But he is so pretty! I’ve never seen this breed before but he must be a purebred. If this event had ribbons, he would take the blue one.”

“If you say so.” Miroku did not sound very convinced. Sesshomaru did not care one way or the other, but Kagome’s comment about his breeding did have his pride going up. If they only knew…

“Oh! It’s time!” Sesshomaru felt the woman holding him move and wished his claws had not been cut so that he could hold on better. Instead he had to trust the woman to not drop him, and having to trust anyone always left him frustrated.

The woman got him to their destination in one piece luckily. Sesshomaru looked around to see that there were ten others held in similar ways. He was set down on the floor and Kagome gave him a soft push. “In you go.”

Sesshomaru held his head high as he walked through an entrance that was normal for his height. He was blinded by a bright light upon entry, but soon enough his eyes adjusted enough so that he could see that he was on some kind of football field. Kagome stood off to the side, behind a strange wall made to look like an audience. She faced a camera held by Miroku and tons of other ones were focused on the field. Holding up a whistle, she spoke to the camera.

“Let the Puppy Bowl begin!”
