The Cookbook by Riku Ryuu

Pink

This is for the Think Pink challenge. I have to admit, I do not like the color pink... but if it is for breast cancer awareness I guess it is alright.

Enjoy.

Kagome looked up from her laptop when the door to the study opened. She blinked at her husbands who stood in the doorway wearing a black apron that read ‘kiss the cook’ in big red letters. She had gotten it as a joke for his birthday but he still used it. His long silver hair was pulled back from his face, probably so it wouldn’t get in his way as he cooked. Kagome looked at his face and saw that he was not amused.

“What’s up?” She asked as she closed her computer. She stood from her chair and moved to snuggle with her husband. He took a single step back from her and shoved a book between them.

“Explain what this is.” He said with a scowl. Kagome looked down at the book and then back at him.

“It’s a cookbook.” She said slowly, not quite sure why Sesshomaru was asking. She took the cookbook from his hand and flipped through the pages to see if there was something wrong with it. It looked fine to her so she closed it and frowned at Sesshomaru.

“It is not my cookbook.” He growled. Kagome shook her head.

“Your old one was falling apart so I got a new one. It is exactly like the other one.” She said after a moment. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes.

“It is not exactly the same, this one is pink!” He said pink in the same tone someone might say animal abuse or murder. Kagome laughed.

“Oh come on Sessy, you aren’t worried about a little pink are you? It is the same book, no matter what color it is.” She handed the book back to him. “Not only that, this book promotes breast cancer awareness.” She didn’t mention that it was cheaper than the other one too.

Sesshomaru frowned down at the book then looked up at Kagome.

“Maybe you should cook then.” He said flatly. There was silence as they both thought of the times she had tried to ‘cook’. Kagome scowled at him.

“Only if you want ramen for the rest of your life.” She said using the same tone. Sesshomaru’s lips twitched but he kept them from turning into a smile.

“I refuse to have a pink cookbook.” He said. He handed her the book.

“Cooking is already a girly activity; why not own a pink book?” She handed the book back.

“Cooking is not feminine.” He handed the book back.

“Anne Burrell, Cat Cora, Paula Deen; the list just goes on and on.” She said, naming girls on foodnetwork. She handed it back.

“Alton Brown.” Was his only rebuttal. It made her pause for a moment after he handed it back.

“You win. Cooking is not girly, but that doesn’t mean using a pink cookbook is bad.” She handed it back and turned to the desk. “Now I am in the middle of a sentence so I would like to finish it before my idea dies.”

Sesshomaru growled behind her and the door closed softly. Kagome knew that she had won the battle but not the war.

A few months later Sango opened a wedding gift from the two. She held up the pink cookbook.

“Uh… thanks….” She frowned at the pink. “It’s… nice.”
