When Kagome was wrong by soulNchantress

When Kagome was wrong

This is my little fic for Smittee's Ultimate Nummy Challenge!  Enjoy.

It was a swelteringly hot day at the Sunset Shrine in late July.  Sesshoumaru, Demon Lord of the Western Lands was debating the merits of cutting off his long, silver locks just to keep cool.  He should be taking it easy in his study (with air conditioning) with his lovely mate by his side holding his iced lemonade.  But alas, that was not to be.  He was out in this kami-awful heat helping her grandfather move relics from one storage shed to the next.  He offered to hire movers for the old man, but he claimed that they would probably be 'demon thieves disguised to distroy the powerful, holy heirlooms of the Higurashi line.'

Blazes, it was hot.  The old man had just entered one of the old sheds to rummage through possessions when Sesshoumaru used his mighty demon speed to slip into the house for a drink.  He would only be gone for a second.  No one would even know that He was even bothered by the heat.

As he entered the front door his keen hearing picked up the sound of someone in the kitchen.  He paused for a moment, it couldn't be her grandfather, he just saw him enter the shed.  Let's see, Souta was swimming at a friends (lucky pup) and Mama was out shopping.  Must be his mate.  She would never tell a soul that He needed to get out of the heat. He straightened his spine and walked into the cool kitchen.  He didn't see his mate.  "Hn."  He knew he heard her.  As he rounded the rectangle island to the sink, he saw his mate's jean-clad backside swinging from the edge of the 'fridge door.  He thought about rubbing it, but He figured that was just another thing to make him hot and he wanted cool. So with some mental shoving he turned his eyes from her and grabbed a glass from the cabinet.

Kagome raised herself up with her prize.  She had been eyeing it since this morning.  She told herself that she didn't need it.  It wouldn't be that good. Dang it, as it got hotter and hotter, she just couldn't help herself.  It had to be soooo goood after the heat.  All cool and refreshing.  It called to her.  She was in her old room cleaning her closet when she heard it.  "Kagome, come on.  Eat me. You know you want to.  I'm sooooo cold."  She gave in, she was to hot to argue.  She loved cheesecake.

She picked up her fork of the counter and stabbed into the cheesecake.  She closed her eyes to take that first bite.  "Mmmmmmmmmmmm, soooo gooood." She was in heaven.  She closed her eyes and let the taste dance on her tongue.  This is so worth a few more sit-ups, she thought.

After a few bissful bites, Kagome looked up and saw Sesshoumaru at the sink.  She noticed how his beautiful hair hung just a little more lanky than before.  Was that sweat on his brow? Surely not.  "Ummmmmm, are you o.k.?"  She didn't want to call attention. Her mate still wanted everyone, everywhere to believe he was perfect, and sweating was not perfect.

"I am fine," he answered her.  He started sipping his water when she spoke.  No need to guzzle like a drunken lout. "What are you eating?"

"It's cheesecake," she replied.  "Want some?"  She asked.  Kagome walked over to him to offer him a bite.

"No, thank you.  This Sesshoumaru doesn't like 'cheesecake'."  He leaned away from her.  He didn't want anything to do with it.  "You can enjoy your pie all by yourself."

"I didn't think there was anyone in the world who did not like cheesecake."  A puzzled look came about her face.  She really couldn't wrap her mind around it.  How could you not like cheesecake?  She shrugged after a moment and resumed eating. "Besides," she said between bites, "it's a cake, not a pie."

"Hn," he sighed.  "It is a pie."  He looked down at the confection like he demanded it to declare itself.  "Is it round?"

"Yes"  Kagome took another bite and swallowed.  "Anybody can see that."

"Of course they can.  Is it made from a filling?," he asked.

"Yes," she answered.  She didn't like where this was going.  Why couldn't he ever be wrong?

"And is it sweet, with a crust and in a pie tin?"  A smug look coming over his face.  He loved when he could point out the obvious to her.

Kagome sighed.  Here it was, the final nail in her argumentive coffin.  "Yes," she answered in a whisper.

"Then it is, based on the facts, a pie."  He smirked at the look on her face. She knew she had lost.  Again His superior skills had placed him in the right.  Now, it was time to gloat.

"You know, mate, you must learn to use your own skills of observation.  I cannot always be there to point things out for you.  You must hone your own skill to be more productive.  Honestly, the way you take everything at face value reminds me of my simpleton of a half-brother."  Sesshoumaru continued to drone on.

Kagome was listening to him up till the part about using her own skills.  Really, who does he think he is?  She wasn't stupid! She must remember to check online about this.  If he was truly right, she wouldn't breath a word, but if She was right....hohoho, look out Fluffy.  She would never let him live this down.

"I hope you learned a lesson from this, my mate.  You must be more observant!  Lest you end up as brash and simple-minded as Inuyasha.  Starting Monday, I will arrange for a Master to come and instruct you in the fine art of observation."

Ok that 'simple-minded' remark stung a little bit.  Now I have to be instructed?  O.K., Kagome was mad now.  As Sesshoumaru continued to rant on about how weak her skills where, Kagome continued to fume. He just kept digging himself deeper. She needed to end this.

"Now, Kagome, don't you feel foolish?"  Sesshoumaru looked down at his mate.  He was suprised that she stood there raptly listening to him.  His eyes widened as his perfect vision was blotted out by yellow.

Kagome stood there beside her mate stunned.  His silver hair, his clean expensive cloathing, he black shiny boots...all covered in cheesecake.  She gasped.  What had she done?

She pushed herself away from the counter, backed up, and bowed to her mate.  "I-I-I'm, uhhhhh, I'm sorry, mate."  Kagome slowly backed toward the kitchen door.  "I, ah, I w-was wrong."  She continued to inch toward the door.  He was so going to kill her when he cleaned up.  She looked from behind her bangs at the cheesecake sliding down his hair to plop onto the floor.  As she got within three inches of the door frame she stammered out her final excuses.  "I truely am sorry, Sesshoumaru.  I was wrong and you were right.  I should have believed you....."

"It was a pie!!," she squealed, as she darted accross the living room and out the front door.
