On Sale

It was silly, she knew, but it was habit; a residual side-effect of living in a family with a single working mother and a constant need for phenomenal quantities of ramen. Despite the fact that she was now married and mated to an exceedingly affluent demon, she couldn't force herself curb her habit.

Kagome clipped coupons.

Every week without fail, she'd save the daily newspapers and store them in a special rack, awaiting Wednesday. Every week without fail, she'd scan those newspapers for bargains and stuff all of the fragile slips into an envelope, which she'd then tuck into her purse. Every week without fail, she'd go shopping and buy only the cheapest of the cheap, and lots of it. Her pantry was full to the brim of cans of on-sale items and free cake mixes and packages of cheap noodles.

And Sesshoumaru was through with it.

This Tuesday night, while his wife and mate was slumbering in their shared bed, he was going to "accidentally" misplace the newspapers.

Now, he could simply take them to the curb and recycle them. After all, recycling was picked up on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, he had tried this before. The Boy Scouts who collected their recycling knew of Kagome's habits and would return any and all unmolested newspapers to their front door.

No, Sesshoumaru was not going to recycle these papers. He was going to chop them into pieces so small they could be mistaken for confetti.

Smirking gleefully at his plan, he brandished a pair of gleaming scissors and began.

~*~*~*~

Upon his arrival at their home that night, Sesshoumaru headed immediately for the pantry. Would there be new cans, cake mixes, or noodles? Surely not!

There were.

He stood in the hallway for a moment or two, gaping. How? How had she done it?

"I almost ran out of scotch tape, piecing the coupons together again," her voice came from behind him, calm in a way that meant she was secretly seething. Sesshoumaru turned his head slowly.

"So I bought more tape while I was out shopping," she added, nodding upwards.

Great Kami, how many cases of tape had she bought?

"Fortunately, it was on sale!"

The doorknob broke under Sesshoumaru's hand.

Next week, he vowed as he repaired the doorknob, he would burn the newspapers after dicing them.
