Hex

Kagome wasn't sure what possessed her to make the offer. She hadn't even been buzzed, the side effects of Kouga's not-no-secretly-spiked punch having worn off hours before, but Sesshoumaru showing up to the Halloween party had been a feat in itself.

He usually kept to himself, giving excuses during each family gathering as to why his business outside the country was more important. Inuyasha didn't think much of it—he'd been doing this since modern travel was invented—especially with how long daiyoukai lived.

"They don't measure time the same way humans do, K'gome," he'd said, waving off her questions last Christmas. "Why're you so interested in him anyway?"

She leaned against the counter with a sigh. "He's the only one from back then that I haven't seen yet. Plus, you keep talking about how much he's changed, but I just can't picture it."

"Keh, it's not that big of a deal."

Kagome raised an eyebrow. "He buys your kids presents. Expensive ones. You can't say that isn't a big deal." She was right, and they both knew it. "He also buys things for Kouga's kids, and he could've held that grudge forever."

Finding out Inuyasha had mated Shiori hadn't surprised her, considering how much the two hanyou had in common, but being able to see Sango in the modern era had been something she'd never even dreamed of before. After the tears of relief had finally abated, her friend confessed to travelling with Kouga as proof to neighbouring villages that humans and youkai could work together in harmony.

Kouga was now head of youkai-human relations within the UN, and while Sango had travelled enough to speak over ten languages fluently, she'd given up her job as an interpreter to open her own business—one that made yellow backpacks.

Tears began anew when Kagome realized the bag she'd been carrying around in the feudal era had been designed by Sango herself, the two women laughing themselves into hysterics.

She smiled to herself, stretching against the tangled sheets. She'd been glad her apartment was so close to Sango and Kouga's house; persuading Sesshoumaru to have a one-night stand with her and then worrying about waking up early enough to leave before he woke up would've been too much to ask for. Bringing him back to her place had been a much better idea.

They'd had to get creative with the bed, but it had only been used half the time anyway.

He'd initially looked at her as if she'd been hexed, going as far as glancing behind him to see if she'd been talking to someone else, but Kagome had held her ground, lifting her chin defiantly as she dared him to say no.
