Love's Journey by Sesshoumaru's Lady

Prologue

Prologue

Staring down at the ground on all fours, panting to even her breathing, the only thing that Kagome Higurashi could hear is the pounding of her heart.

It seemed like just the other day that she fell through the well first appearing in the Feudal era, rescuing Inuyasha from his imprisonment on the God Tree, meeting Shippo, Miroku, Sango and Kirara.

Finding out at the age of fifteen, she was the reincarnation of Inuyasha's former love, the priestess named Kikyo. She discovered at that age that she also gained spiritual powers and through the years managed to train and improve those powers to be a very powerful priestess

Four years after these events they were finally at the final battle with Naraku, she felt as though she was in a narrow tunnel with the end was clear in sight.

Without looking up, Kagome could feel the aura's of her shard collecting group that was her family scattered on the battlefield as well as Inuyasha's half brother, Sesshoumaru.

In the last year, their shard group merged with Sesshoumaru in an alliance to finally rid the world of the dark half demon Naraku.

While the half brothers relationship was not complete with brotherly love being warm and fuzzy, there was an understanding that they both were able to see past titles, race and the blame for the love or lack of love of their most esteemed and famous father to finally work together and become the powerhouse duo that their father had always wanted.

So with the alliance in place, they were able to put their differences aside and work together to finally stop and eliminate Naraku, who was the reason for the loss in the shard hunters lives. Each person on that battlefield had a reason to be there and all wanted to finally take care of Naraku to go on with their lives.

Kagome who actually lives in present day Tokyo, felt it was her duty to keep returning after all of these years because regardless of the lack of knowledge when she first arrived in this era of how the Shikon no Tama was and the devastation that it was able to cause, she accidentally shattered it in an attempt to remove it from an escaping flesh eating crow who swallowed it.

Kagome could hear Inuyasha yelling at her on the far left side that he was on his way and she could feel the aura of Sesshoumaru on her right side slashing away at Naraku's tentacles.

She looked at her 5 o'clock position and could feel Sango and Miroku fighting off a group of Naraku's low level demons. Sango using her huge boomerang and Miroku using his wind tunnel.

"Kagome, are you okay?" Inuyasha yelled and grunted as he was slashing at a demon, killing it in the process.

"Kagome! I said are you alright?" Inuyasha grunted making his way towards Kagome while parrying with a demon in his way.

Kagome was able to hear all around her and was going to respond to Inuyasha when she felt a surge of power ahead of her.

'oh no, Naraku is using power from his jewel shards. I need to get to him to purify those pieces and end this once and for all.'

Inuyasha finally jumped to her side helping her to stand, the worry radiating from his aura was easily picked up by Kagome. Finally standing on her two feet, she looked to her right sparing a glance at Sango and Miroku who were still fending off the low level demons. She could tell that they were fighting but starting to become weary of the defense of fighting off the demons. She then cut her sights over to Sesshoumaru who was also fighting a group of demons.

Her eyes softened at the sight of the mighty demon lord that she had gotten close to over the past year due to their alliance. Sesshoumaru was well aware of the role that Kagome would play in the final battle with Naraku, so due to the merging of both packs, it was inevitable that the sweet and kindhearted Kagome would befriend the cold and aloof demon lord.

When the groups first merged, Sesshoumaru kept his distance from his half brothers pack, and even though he loathed being in such a close proximity of humans and his irritating half brother, he found that his understanding of the humans and his brother were wrong. He found that they had honor and duty and while he found their antics when making camp at night were sometimes childish, he eventually warmed up the members, especially Kagome.

Sesshoumaru first found that the priestess of his brothers group to be an enigma. Since the first time interacting with her in his fathers tomb he knew after her pulling the famed Tetsaiga from it's imbedded rock where he and Inuyasha couldn't, that she was not a normal human.

His journeys in the past where he encountered the shard hunting group, he was able to see that the priestess held a large amount of power underneath that fragile and human frame that she was able to train and master.

Once the alliance was created with him and his brothers pack, he was able to see firsthand the day to day doings of the priestess and found that she was educated and helped humans and demons alike and held no grudge towards a race that was naturally her enemy. However, she didn't take the role of standard mikos that he dealt with in the past and welcomed him and his group with a warm and sincere smile.

Sesshoumaru was able to see many sides of the priestess ranging from playing and reading stories with Rin and Shippo, to feeding the group, to studying with these strange scrolls that she called textbooks that she needed to graduate, to tend to the wounds of all the pack members, to watching her talk quietly with him when they took their nightly stroll.

This was a habit that they started six months ago when one night she walked away from camp to get away from the group when they were asleep. Sesshoumaru followed her to ensure her safety when she turned around and smiled at him and asked him if he would like to take a walk with her. Agreeing to himself that she should not be alone too far away from camp, regardless of how powerful she was, he felt it was no huge sacrifice on his part to take a stroll with her.

He found out during these nightly strolls more about the priestess that he was not able to pick up from simple observation and from there a friendship was established.

Kagome was then brought out of her thoughts of the demon lord when Inuyasha asked her a question.

"Hey Kagome, are you okay? I can bring you back to Kaede's hut where Rin and Shippo are, if you feel drained. " She could hear the worry in his voice and she smiled and shook her head at her best friend.

"No, I'm okay Inuyasha, I just needed to take a quick breather to gather myself but I'm okay now." She continued smiling and stared straight at him.

Sesshoumaru at that time landed on her right side, noticing that this was a strategy huddle and being the demon lord that he is, wanted to be included in it.

Kagome turned her smiling face to Sesshoumaru and then back to Inuyasha and said to them both,

"I have a plan to end Naraku once and for all but I need help from the both of you to pull it off".

Both brothers looked at each other and then back at Kagome and nodded their heads for her to proceed.

Kagome took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, then explained her game plan to them, knowing that they were not going to like it.

"Alright, the plan is to distract Naraku long enough for me to purify him with my priestess powers but in order to do that, I need to find where the jewel shards that he has imbedded in his body are... I need for Sesshoumaru to use his dragon strike to put Naraku on the defense which knowing him, he will put up a barrier and in doing so, Inuyasha I need you to use your red tetsaiga to break his barrier that he creates while he tries to fend off Sesshoumaru's attack."

Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes at Kagome and asked the inevitable question. "And while we are attacking Naraku, how will you be able to purify the imbedded jewels?"

Kagome gave a small smile, knowing what was going to transpire once she answered. "I will be standing right next to him as you guys use your swords on him, one on each side and me in front."

Not letting Kagome down, Inuyasha yelled , "Oh Hell No, you are crazy if you are going be that close to Naraku while the strong powers of our swords are aimed at the very person that you will be standing next to, Nope, no way in hell! "

Kagome turned to Inuyasha and placed a gentle hand on his and then placed her other hand on Sesshoumaru's and looked at them both with a soft, affectionate gaze knowing that they didn't want to do it this way. "I know that you guys don't want to endanger me, but trust me, I have trained very hard to help me get to this point and if there was another way I would, but this is the only way that we will finally get rid of Naraku, by working together. "

They were hesitant at first but reluctantly agreed that their goal is to finally rid the world of Naraku. Both reluctantly nodded their heads to her, she lightly squeezed both of their hands and started walking towards Naraku.

She stopped and gave one final glance at Miroku and Sango almost to the point of collapsing and then turned around and looked at Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru over her shoulder, she gave another warm smile to both of them and saying , "Trust me, I can do it. Besides it will work because I trust you both."

She then nodded at them and then turned back to Naraku and started walking to him.

'Finally, we can end this quest." Was her thoughts as she continued walking torwards Naraku.

A/N: I hope that you enjoy this! I am anticipating this to be somewhere between 10-15 chapters. While I am very new at posting my stories, I am not new to writing or reading them from other authors. I just never had the courage to post, but now I grew a pair. Please no flames!
