Spoils of War by mythicamagic

Prologue

AN: Admittedly this is expanded from a snippet from a long while ago. This marks the beginning of an AU story! Don't expect any updates to happen soon, I just wanted to post it to get it out there.

Prompt: “this is all your fault." “Don’t act like you’re not enjoying yourself."

“I’m not doing it.”

The warlord currently lounging under the covers of a vast, fur-covered bed rolled onto one side, pillowing his cheek on pale knuckles. Smiling, molten eyes laughed at her unease as exquisite mink furs inched down his bare chest.

He doubled Kagome’s horror by pushing a segment of the covers back, gesturing to the available space beside him in bed invitingly. This resulted in fully exposing a defined abdomen along with a magenta stripe hugging his hip- which disappeared beneath furs now riding low around his navel. He looked as though he were carved from marble. Thick corded muscles stretched- long silver hair slipping free from behind a pointed ear with an endearing tilt of his head.

Blushing, she hissed; “I don’t care if you can’t understand me, read my lips-” Kagome pointed to her mouth, glaring at him heatedly. “I am NOT sleeping with you. Or next to you. Ever!

Hell, she’d happily take the rug covered floor if it meant avoiding his ‘come hither’ stare.

Sesshoumaru’s lips twitched upwards with amusement, uttering something silky in his own language.

Sighing, Kagome pinched the bridge of her nose. This was impossible. Even if they could understand one another, she doubted a warmongering demon like him would actually listen to someone he’d essentially just received in a trade. She’d taken easy conversation for granted big time- taken freedom for granted, woefully unprepared for what ‘belonging’ to a warlord could mean.

How had she ended up in this situation? What misstep had she made? Had it started during that morning hike up the mountain? When an earthquake had split the ground at her and Keisuke’s feet, leading into the unknown. When they’d accepted the demon’s invitation to dine with them? Or had things gone wrong earlier, way back two years prior when she’d first lain eyes on her conniving son-of-a-

She took a breath.

Ex-fiancé.

Kagome eyed Keisuke’s ring on her finger with a heated stare, wrenching it off. For some reason, this seemed to delight the naked male lounging upon the bed, who gave a rumbling noise of approval in response.

Glaring in his direction, she tossed the ring into the room, uncaring where it landed. “This is all your fault.”

The man named Sesshoumaru- warlord of a pocket dimension packed full of demons she’d unwittingly stumbled into- smiled at her with a cruel upturn of his mouth, murmuring something.

If Kagome had to guess, it would be something predictably arrogant such as; “Don’t act like you’re not enjoying yourself.“

Inching backwards, she looked around the den of furs- grabbing the nearest sword and wrenching it free from its wall mount, staggering with the weight. Its tip hit the floor with a loud ‘clang.’

Sesshoumaru chuckled quietly, and Kagome’s face blazed red. Instead of turning the blade on him as intended, she sank into one corner of the room like a wary animal, holding the much too big sword in front of her protectively.

Her captor arched a brow, before lifting a shoulder. He rolled over, presenting his muscled back and sculpted curve of his ass to her startled gaze.

Grumbling, she hugged the sword to her chest, remaining knelt in her space until her lids grew heavy. Fighting sleep for a while and keeping her guard up, she eyed the demon's back warily. Why exactly he'd wanted her when they couldn't communicate, Kagome had no idea. If he'd figured she'd be ecstatic about jumping into bed with him after being dumped, he was sorely mistaken.

Blue eyes narrowed at the thought. She’d hunt that traitor Keisuke down and make him damn sorry for ever betraying her like this, abandoning her into a nest of- admittedly attractive vipers.

As she slipped into a light nap, Kagome resolved to escape her fantastical, impossible situation with the coming dawn.
